Eleven streets and two neighborhoods in Dushanbe will be left without electricity for seven hours today in connection with routine maintenance work on power stations in these areas, according to the Dushanbe electricity supply networks.

“Today, electricity supply will be cut off to Ayni, Binokoron, May 1st, Sohili, Dehoti, Mirali, Ushakov, Vozeh, Nemat Qaraboyev, Yakkachanor and Borbad streets from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm in connection with routine maintenance work,” said an official source at the Dushanbe electricity supply networks.  “Besides, electricity supply will be cut off to the Yakkatut and Khovaron (Vostochniye Kholmy) neighborhoods.”

It is to be noted that practically every day, various streets in the Tajik capital have been left without electricity since the beginning of the year.  Barqi Tojik (Tajikistan’s state-run power utility company) has explained these power outages by maintenance work on Dushanbe’s power substations.

Meanwhile, some representatives of Barqi Tojik have attributed the problems to low water levels at the reservoir powering the Nurek hydropower plant.

Recall, many regions in the country have seen rationing of electricity between midnight and 6 a.m.
