Qatar will provide Tajikistan with $50 million in a soft loan for the construction of the Rogun HPP. The agreement was signed by the Minister of Finance of the Republic of Tajikistan Fayziddin Kahhorzoda and the Director General of the Qatar Development Fund Fahd Hamad Al-Suleiti on August 23 in Dushanbe.
As stated in the message of the Ministry of Finance of Tajikistan, the funds will be used for the implementation of the Rogun project, which will strengthen the republic's energy security and expand electricity production for domestic and regional needs. Details of the terms of the agreement have not been published.
During the meeting, the sides also exchanged views on the possibilities of expanding bilateral cooperation and the Fund's participation in the implementation of other priority government projects.
The delegation of the Qatar Development Fund also held talks with President Emomali Rahmon in Tajikistan.
It should be noted that Tajikistan previously negotiated with the Qatar Development Fund to raise grant funds for the continuation of the construction of the Rogun HPP. During his working visit to Doha in October 2024, Emomali Rahmon proposed that Qatar establish a joint economic and Investment Fund to finance Tajikistan's priority projects.
