The Emergencies Committee under the Government of Tajikistan warns about the danger of avalanches in the mountainous areas of the country from March 12 to 14.
“According to meteorologists, heavy snowfall is expected during this period, accompanied by relatively warm temperatures, which could lead to an increased risk of avalanche formation,” the Emergencies Committee reports.
The avalanche risk is particularly high in the mountainous areas of Sughd province, along the section of the Dushanbe-Khujand-Chanak highway (62-74 kilometers in Varzob district), as well as in the western part of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO).
In connection with this, the Committee urges drivers and citizens to refrain from unnecessary trips to these areas during the specified days.
If travel is still necessary, the following safety rules should be observed:
- Prepare your vehicle — replace summer tires with winter ones and check the car's technical condition.
- Inform your relatives — tell your loved ones about your route, departure time, and estimated arrival time.
- Be prepared for the cold — take warm clothing and communication devices for emergencies.
- Maintain safe distances — stay away from other vehicles to avoid accidents.
- Do not exceed speed limits — be cautious and follow the speed regulations.
- Keep an eye on warnings — if you receive information about the risk of avalanches, stop and wait until the threat has passed.
The Emergencies Committee reminds that following these recommendations will help ensure your safety and the safety of other road users.
