DUSHANBE, April 7, 2011, Asia-Plus -- Renovated infectious diseases department at the Roudaki central district hospital is reopening today. The department has been rehabilitated due to a grant awarded by the Government of Japan.
According to the Japanese Embassy in Dushanbe, Mr. Yoshihiro Nakayama, Chargé d’Affairs of the Embassy of Japan in Dushanbe, and Mr. Saidmurod Taghoyev, Chairman of Roudaki District, are attending a handover ceremony at the infectious department of the central district hospital in Roudaki district.
“The Project for Rehabilitation of Medical Facility for Infectious Diseases in Roudaki District” for the total amount of US$95,776 funded by the Government of Japan in the framework of Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) has been successfully implemented.
Located 15 kilometers from Dushanbe, the infectious department at the Roudaki central district hospital has never been rehabilitated since establishment in 1984. Due to lack of modern medical equipment as well as timeworn building, patients could not have proper treatment.
In the framework of the project, the wards of the infectious department were rehabilitated, while seven medical devices including ultrasound device as well as furniture and medical beds were installed. The project will play a key role to provide appropriate medical treatment to patients of infectious diseases and to prevent the spread of infectious diseases in Roudaki district and the neighboring areas including Dushanbe.
Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) is provided to local governments, educational / medical institutions and International NGOs in developing countries. GGP supports projects in the human security sectors at the grassroots level. GGP has extended more than US$ 19.3 million for 267 projects in the Republic of Tajikistan since 1996.
