KULOB, April 8, 2011, Asia-Plus -- Another small hydropower plant has been built in Khatlon’s Kulob region.
The 16kW hydropower station was introduced into operation in the village of Khorma, Baljuvon district yesterday.
“It is the fourth small power plant in Baljuvon and it brings a total number of small hydropower plants in the Kulob region to 74,” the Kulob power supply network head Mirzo Ismoilov told Asia-Plus in an interview. 68 small power plants are located in Shouroobod district, four in Baljuvon and two in Khovaling district.
According to him, 64 small power plants with a total capacity of 446 kW operated in three mountain districts of the region during autumn-winter 2010-2011, while nine others were not in operation for a number of reasons.
Meanwhile, construction of a small hydropower plant in the Mehnatobod village of Vose district is under way. Ismoilov says introduction of the Khorma (Baljuvon) and Mehnatobod small power stations into operation increases a total capacity of small power plants operating in the area to 681kW.
