An international roundtable formally titled “Social Measurement of Eurasian Integration: Opportunities and Prospects for Tajikistan” took place in Dushanbe on April 4. Russia’s proposal on giving Tajikistan the status of observer to the Eurasian Economic Union has been submitted for consideration to the Government of Tajikistan.
Organized by Eurasia Research Institute Development Foundation, “Ural-Eurasia” Expert Club and “Eurasia – Volga Region” Analytical Expert Club under support of the Russian Embassy in Dushanbe, the event focused on issues related to development of human capital under conditions of integration processes taking place within the Eurasian space.
The roundtable participants included politicians, diplomats, experts, representatives of business circles, researchers, public figures and representatives of media.
Senior representatives of diplomatic missions of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia also attended the meeting.
Experts from Russia and Kyrgyzstan, in particular, noted that Tajikistan would get new opportunities in case of expanding cooperation with the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU).
According to Russian experts, EEU mechanisms would promote horizontal cooperation between the regions of Tajikistan and Russia.
The meeting participants also discussed issues related to labor migration and advantages Tajik labor migrants would get in case of Tajikistan’s joining the EEU market.
At the end of the meeting, representative of Tajikistan’s Foreign Ministry noted that Russia’s proposal on giving Tajikistan the status of observer to the Eurasian Economic Union had been submitted for consideration to the Government of Tajikistan.
