The next meeting of the parties to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification will be held on September 2-13 in Delhi (India).

«For Tajikistan, which actively participates in the work of the convention, at the meeting, joint work with other countries of Central Asia is especially important to develop measures to prevent and mitigate droughts, as well as reduce sand and dust storms», - said Helga Karsten, Public Information Officer, UN Convention to Combat Desertification.

A statement on with what Tajikistan is going to the meeting of the parties was provided by Nazar Abdurahmonzoda, UN national coordinator in Tajikistan.

Tajikistan acceded to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification in 1997. At the Delhi meeting, Abdurahmonzoda will talk about how the Tajik government implements the convention, takes measures to combat desertification, overcome drought and other types of natural disasters and increase the standard of living of the population, creates an enabling environment to combat land degradation and increase resilience to climate change.

It is expected that during the meeting countries will review the results of the global land degradation assessment. This will allow taking new initiatives, developing projects and programs to achieve a neutral balance of land degradation.
