Buzurgmehr Yorov, who is now in custody, became this nominee.
Tajik lawyer Buzurgmehr Yorov nominated for the Vaclav Havel Prize awarded by the Council of Europe for special merits in protecting human rights.
In addition to Buzurgmehr Yorov, the shortlist of the finalists of the Vaclav Havel Prize in the field of human rights included the Uyghur human rights activist Ilham Tukhti and the Youth Initiative for Human Rights.
Lawyer Buzurgmehr Yorov is the first Tajik to be nominated for a prestigious international award in the field of human rights protection.
Yorov’s candidacy for the Havel Prize deserves attention and support, said Tajik politician, Doctor of Law Shokirjon Khakimov.
In an interview with AP, he said that Yorov, as a lawyer, did not divide the poor and rich who turned to them for help, did not look at their political views.
«Yorov always tried to ensure that the country's lawyers occupy a worthy place in the country's judicial system in Tajikistan», - concluded Khakimov.
