On September 3, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon signed a decree “On the dismissal of military personnel who have served the established terms of military service and the next draft of citizens of the republic born in 1992-2001 for military service”.

According to it, with the autumn draft in the army will begin on October 1. Male citizens who have reached the age of 18 years of age by the day of conscription, as well as older conscripts who are not eligible for deferment or exemption from military service, will be drafted into the Armed Forces of the Republic of Tajikistan, the press service of the head of state reporets.

The recruiting, careful selection of draftees with the participation of the republic’s security and internal affairs bodies was entrusted to the Ministry of Defense, the chairmen of the draft commissions of GBAO, Khatlon and Sughd regions, Dushanbe, cities and regions, taking into account the specifics and features of the service in the border troops, the National Guard and special forces.

Responsibility for organizing the draft in accordance with Article 23 of the Law of the Republic of Tajikistan “On Universal Military Duty and Military Service” lies with the chairman of the city or region.

The coverage of the organization and conduct of the draft, as well as the promotion of service in the Armed Forces, is entrusted to Ministry of Culture, Committee on Youth and Sports, Committee on Television and Radio RT.

The ranks of the Tajik Armed Forces are annually replenished by about 15-16 thousand people. According to official figures, there are more than 600 thousand young people of draft age in the country, however, about 150 thousand of them have the right to deferment or exemption from military service, are unsuitable for military service, and about 100 thousand are employed outside the country.
