Organized by France’s Embassy in Dushanbe and Bactria Cultural Center, a French Film Festival will start in Dushanbe on October 29.  

Feature and animated films, modern dramas and comedies will be shown at Tajikfilm Studio’s cinema hall every evening; starting time: 6:30 pm.  

Romantic comedy “Vincent n’a pas d’ecailles lia” (Vincent – Amphibian Man without Scales) will open the festival on October 29.  Vincent is a quiet, unassuming man. Who happens to have superhuman powers when exposed to water. He lives a life that keeps him away from others for the most part. Then he meets a girl. Then his powers are discovered. And his life changes.

“The King and the Mockingbird” (French: Le Roi et l'Oiseau, literally The King and the Bird), a 1980 traditionally animated feature film directed by Paul Grimault, will be shown on October 30.  The film is today regarded as a masterpiece of French animation and has been cited by the Japanese directors Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata as an influence.

Modern drama “The Small Farmer” telling difficulties of village life in France will be shown on October 31.

French drama film “Polina” (French: Polina, danser sa vie”) telling history of young Russian ballet dancer will be shown on November 1.   A young girl studies classical ballet. As a young woman she turns to modern dance and choreography.

French drama film “Barbara” will close the festival on November 2.  “Barbara” is a 2017 French drama film directed by Mathieu Amalric.  It was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival where it won The Poetry of Cinema Award. The film was awarded Prix Jean Vigo 2017, the Prix Louis-Delluc 2017 and the Cesar for Best Actress for Jeanne Balibar.
