Medical facilities in the northern province of Sughd are reportedly experiencing an acute shortage of healthcare workers.

According to Sughd government’s press center, this issue was raised at a sitting of the Sughd local council (Majlis) that took place in Khujand, the capital of the Sughd province, on June 19.

Delivering a report on this issue, deputy Sughd governor, Ms. Zainoura Azimi, in particular, noted that more than 800 doctors and 5,200 nurses had been trained for local medical facilities in recent years.

At the same time, she noted that some districts of the province are experiencing an acute shortage of healthcare workers.

According to her, the Kuhistonin Mastchoh, Spitamen, Mastchoh and Bobojon-Ghafourov districts are the most worsened districts in terms of availability of healthcare workers.

“In all, the province now needs additional more 800 doctors and 150 nurses,” Ms. Azimi said.
