On Tuesday May 18, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Tajikistan Takayuki Miyashita together with Sangvor District Chairperson Mahmadshoh Davlatzoda attended the handover ceremony of the Project for Construction of a New Building of the Department of Children’s Infectious Diseases of the Central Hospital in Sangvor District.  The ceremony was also attended by local officials, medical staff and community members.

According to the Japan Embassy in Dushanbe, the project has been implemented by the Local Executive Authority of Sangvor District and was funded by the Government of Japan through the scheme of “Grant Assistance for Grassroots and Human Security Projects (GGP).”  The GGP grant with the total amount of US$ 90,802 was efficiently used for improvement of healthcare environment of the district.  The newly constructed building has eight wards and doctors’ room. Now, the hospital can annually accept approximately 350 children as inpatients and around 750 children have access to consultation of doctors with significantly improved medical environment.


During his speech at the handover ceremony, Mr. Miyashita made a following remark “It is my great pleasure to hand over this new hospital building surrounded by beautiful mountains and nature to the people of Sangvor District today.  The health sector is one of Japan’s priority areas of development cooperation with Tajikistan.  I expect this special hospital will save a lot of life of children and contribute to promoting health of child in this region.  I look forward to seeing a lot of smiling-faces of children who will visit and leave from here.”

Mr. Mahmadshoh Davlatzoda expressed his sincere gratitude to the Government and people of Japan for their support.

The handover ceremony marks the expansion of contribution of the Government of Japan in promoting quality healthcare service in Tajikistan.  The Government of Japan is dedicated to continuing its support for creating a better society for all people and committed to working together with the people of Tajikistan.


“Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project” (GGP) is a scheme within Japan’s Official Development Assistance. GGP in particular implements grassroots-level projects in various sectors throughout the Republic of Tajikistan. Recipients of GGP grants include local governments, educational and medical institutions, and NGOs. As of today, GGP has supported 421 projects in the Republic ofTajikistan, for which US$ $34.0 million has been allocated since 1996.
