The 17th session of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage kicked off in Rabat, the Kingdom of Morocco on November 28.

The Tajik MFA information department says that  Tajikistan`s joint nominations, namely "Sericulture and Traditional Production of Silk for Weaving", "Mehrgon Holiday", "Traditional Embroidery in Central Asia", "Art of Crafting and Playing Rubob" and "Telling Tradition of Khoja Nasriddin Afandi Anecdotes",  will be considered during the session that will run through December 3.

Media reports say delegates from 180 countries attended the session, during which the Committee will evaluate more than 50 nominations submitted by States Parties for inscription on the Lists of the Convention.  

The Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage was reportedly adopted at the 32nd General Assembly of UNESCO on October 17, 2003, to protect the world’s intangible cultural heritage.
