Russian media reports say the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation has proposed to notify citizens about the mobilization call-up via SMS.
RIA Novosti reports that the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation has developed a draft resolution that provides for notifying Russians about the draft in case of mobilization via SMS, along with sending information through public services and the taxpayer's personal account.
According to the document, the notification about sending call-up paper by the military recruitment office is placed in a citizen’s personal account on the public service portal, in the taxpayer’s personal account, as well as through the SMS message sent to phone number listed on the public service portal.
The explanatory note specifies that the changes made will help reduce the time of notification of citizens about the mobilization call-up.
Recall, Russian announced a partial mobilization of military reservists in September last year. Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced that Russia had a “huge mobilization reserve” and planned to mobilize 300,000 recruits. On October 28, 2022, Shoigu told Russian President Vladimir Putin that mobilization had been completed.
Under the new law passed in April this year, the Russian authorities can issue call-up papers online and will set up a digital database of all Russians eligible for military service.
