DUSHANBE, September 14, Asia-Plus - China Development Bank (CDB) indents to expand its cooperation with the Government of Tajikistan and increase amounts of loans providing to support development of Tajikistan’s economy.
President Emomali Rahmonov today received visiting CDB head Chen Yuan, presidential press service reported.
In the course of the talks the two discussed prospects of further expansion of cooperation between Tajikistan and China both on bilateral basis and within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
Speaking to journalists after the meeting with Rahmonov, Chen said they also discussed issues related to cooperation between CDB and the Tajik government on enhancement of Tajikistan’s agrarian sector, energy and light industry.
CDB also intends to expand cooperation with the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT), according to him. “We also touched upon issues of developing hydropower resources in Tajikistan, construction of power plants, supporting cotton growing and construction of spinning mill in Tajikistan,” said the CDB head, “At present we are working with Tajik central bank and providing a loan of US$10 million to support enhancement of Tajik agrarian sector.” He added that they intended to increase amounts of loans provided to Tajikistan.
In the meantime, a source in the Tajik government said the CDB loan of US$10 million provided to support Tajikistan’s agrarian sector bears no interest and is repayable over 40 years.
ABOUT: China Development Bank, founded in March 1994, is under the direct jurisdiction of the State Council. At present it has 32 branches and four representative offices across the country.
