Dushanbe. November 22. “Asia-Plus” - The final consideration of the Tajikistan’s Strategy for Improvement of the Population Living Standards for 2013-2015 was held yesterday, November 21st, in the course of a regular session of the working coordination group under the National Development Council’s Secretariat.

The session has brought together representatives of related ministries and departments of the country, Tajik Ministry of Economy and Trade reported.

When presenting the Strategy, Deputy Minister of Economy and Trade, Umed Davlatzod, said that the document is aimed to reduce poverty, create favorable conditions for the development of the middle class and increase the total number of people with average income.

According to the expected scenario, which is reflected in the Strategy, poverty level in Tajikistan is expected to fall from 38.3% in 2012 down to 31.5% in 2015, while the middle class (in line with average international standards) will raise from 19.5% up to 29.4%.

According to the Strategy, at least 30% of Tajikistan’s population represent the risk group. These people have equal chance to join the poor or the middle class. Therefore, the Strategy is aimed to help these people join the middle class.

The Strategy for Improvement of the Population Living Standards for 2013-2015 was designed in the frameworks of the National Development Strategy for 2015.

Two similar strategies were designed and implemented in the country between 2007-2012. The document was previously called Poverty Reduction Strategy.
