DUSHANBE, March 28, 2013, Asia-Plus – On Wednesday March 27, Tajik Ambassador to Ukraine Shuhrat Sultonov met in Kyiv with Ukrainian Minister for Regional Development, Construction and Housing Gennady Temnik, who is also co-chairman of the Tajik-Ukrainian intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation.

According to the Tajik Embassy in Kyiv, the sides discussed state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral economic cooperation between Tajikistan and Ukraine as well the upcoming meeting of the Tajik-Ukrainian intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation that is expected to take place in Dushanbe from April 2-4.

Ambassador Sultonov, in particular, noted that there was considerable room for expansion of economic ties.  He outlined sectors like industry, energy and agriculture as areas of which could drive the bilateral trade between the two countries.

The sides also considered issues related to expansion of economic ties between the regions of the two countries as well as expansion of bilateral educational and scientific cooperation.       

Sultonov asked Temnik to speed up the issue of resuming an aerial communication between Dushanbe and Kyiv.

Temnik, for his part, noted that Ukraine was interested in expanding bilateral economic cooperation with Tajikistan and expressed confidence that the upcoming meeting of the joint commission for economic cooperation would give a new impulse to further development of bilateral relations between the two countries.

Ukrainian minister further added that the Ukrainian side was ready to launch an air route Dushanbe-Kyiv-Frankfurt am Main.

Days of Ukraine’s Culture are expected to be held in Tajikistan in June this year.
