DUSHANBE, February 21, 2011, Asia-Plus -- Kyrgyz national has been detained with hashish in Sughd province.
According to the Ministry of Interior (MoI), the 27-year-old woman from Kyrgyzstan’s Batken region, Maqsouda Nurilloyeva, was detained in Bobojonghafurov district on suspicion of drug pushing yesterday. A package containing narcotic drug that tested positive to hashish weighing 1.142 kilograms was confiscated from her, the source at a MoI said.
Criminal proceedings have been instituted against the alleged drug peddler and an investigation is under way.
According to the statistical data from the Ministry of Interior, 43 foreign nationals were detained in Tajikistan last year for drug smuggling, including 25 Afghans, two nationals of Ukraine, three Uzbeks, five Pakistani nationals, one Russian, one Chinese national, one citizen of Saudi Arabia and so forth.
In January 2011, Tajik law enforcement authorities seized more than 600 kilograms of narcotics.
