DUSHANBE, March 3, 2011, Asia-Plus  -- Afghan national has been detained with a large amount of narcotics in Farkhor district, Khatlon province.

According to the Interior Ministry, resident of Afghan Kunduz province, Gulkhadin waladi Mahamdin, 35, was detained in Farkhor district on suspicion of drug peddling on March 2.  More than 36 kilograms of narcotics were confiscated from him.  A totaled included 34.5 kilograms of marijuana and 1.68 kilograms of heroin, the source said.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against the detained drug peddler and an investigation is under way.

Over the first two months of this year, Tajik law enforcement authorities have seized 460 kilograms of narcotic drug, including 50 kilograms of heroin, some 18 kilograms of raw opium and more than 392 kilograms of marijuana, the source added.

In 2010, 43 foreign citizens were detained in Tajikistan on suspicion of drug peddling, including 25 Afghans, three Uzbeks, two Ukrainians, five citizens of Pakistan, one Russian, one citizen of China, one citizen of Saudi Arabia, etc.
