DUSHANBE, March 3, 2011, Asia-Plus -- Two officers from the customs control points at the Dushanbe airport and the Pakhtaobod railway station face corruption charges.
According to the Interior Ministry, T.H., an officer from the customs control point at the Dushanbe airport, was detained yesterday following an application from Dushanbe resident, who said that the customs officer had taken 2,560 Russian rubles and 258 somoni from him during inspection of passengers. “This money was confiscated from T.H.,” the source said.
On the same day, the Interior Ministry received a similar application from entrepreneur from Vahdat district, who said that customs inspector at the Pakhtaobod railway station, B.H., demanded 350 somoni from him for customs clearance of his cargo.
Criminal proceedings have been instituted against both corrupt customs officers and an investigation is under way.
