As part of his working trip to the European Union countries the Prosecutor-General of Tajikistan Yusuf Rahmon on August 2 met in Vienna with Ambassador Tuula Yrjölä, Director of the OSCE Conflict Prevention Center also Deputy Head of the OSCE Secretariat, and Ambassador Alena Kupchyna, the OSCE Coordinator of Activities to Address Transnational Threats, according to the press center of the Prosecutor-General’s Office of Tajikistan.
During the meeting, the parties reportedly discussed the current state of cooperation between Tajikistan and the OSCE within the framework of the political-military and humanitarian dimensions, including the process of implementation of relevant OSCE programs and projects in Tajikistan, as well as the issues of cooperation of the parties in implementing the Strategy on Countering Extremism and Terrorism in Tajikistan designed for 2021-2025.
The parties also exchanged views on the current situation in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and its possible impact to the security situation in Central Asian countries and beyond, as well as issues related to the participation of the civil society organizations in the OSCE events.
In addition, the parties have discussed the role of the OSCE assistance in capacity-building of prosecution authorities and other issues of common interest.
During the meeting, Tajik chief prosecutor reportedly urged the OSCE not to admit “persons with criminal intentions” to its events.
On the same day, Tajik chief prosecutor also held talks with Ms. Ghada Fathi Waly, Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC)
During the meeting, the parties reportedly discussed the issues of cooperation between Tajikistan and the UNODC in countering drug trafficking, terrorism and extremism, transnational organized crime, human trafficking, prevention of corruption and other economic crimes, improvement of the criminal justice system, as well as collaboration on the implementation of the Strategy on Countering Extremism and Terrorism in Tajikistan for 2021-2025.
The parties also exchanged views on the latest developments in Afghanistan as well as implementation of the UNODC programs and projects in Tajikistan and other issues being of mutual interest.
While in Austria, Yusuf Rahmon held a number of other meetings to discuss issues related to ensuring and protecting human rights and freedoms in Tajikistan in the framework of UN international agreement, extraditing internationally wanted persons and their danger for the countries of the European Union, providing legal assistance in criminal cases and so forth, the press center of the Prosecutor-General’s Office of Tajikistan says.
