Tajik President Emomali Rahmon today received Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, who arrived in Dushanbe on an official visit Tuesday evening.

The Tajik president’s official website says the parties discussed a broad range of issues related to the bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Turkiye.

Tajik leader reportedly highly appraised prospects of long-term collaboration, emphasizing its compliance with the interests of both countries.  

In the course of the talks, the parties paid particular attention to strengthening economic and social ties with an emphasis on expansion of the bilateral cooperation in the fields of trade, industry and investment.  

Rahmon and Fidan reportedly also discussed further expansion of educational scientific, cultural and tourism cooperation between Tajikistan and Turkiye. 


They, in particular, expressed support for holding Days of Culture of Turkiye in Tajikistan and Days of Culture of Tajikistan in Turkiye.  

Emomali Rahmon and Hakan Fidan also exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues being of mutual interest, including the current political situation in Afghanistan and Palestine, the Tajik president’s official website says. 

The Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Turkiye established diplomatic relations on January 29, 1992.

Both are members of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), an Asian political and economic intergovernmental organization.

Tajik–Turkish relations are friendly and cooperative and underlined with a legal basis of more than 65 treaties and protocols which have been signed between two countries since 1991.

The Turkish Agency for Cooperation and Coordination (TIKA) in Tajikistan plays an important role in the development of bilateral relations between the two countries.  Dozens of projects were implemented in Tajikistan by this Agency.

Turkiye’s Foreign Ministry says Turkish-Tajik relations are based on common historical and cultural ties, which were enriched with the legacy of great thinkers like Mawlana Jalal ad-Din Rumi. Today, the two countries are determined to further strengthen their cooperation in every field.  At the international fora, Turkiye and Tajikistan reportedly enjoy solidarity and close cooperation.
