DUSHANBE, June 21, 2013, Asia-Plus -- 25 high and mid – levels of local administration, jamoats, law enforcement officers, deputy of local authorities and other specialists from cross bordering provinces of Batken, Kyrgyzstan and  Isfara city, Tajikistan attended two day training on “Gender aspects in safety. The Role and Competencies of Public Authority and Self-Government Bodies in Implementation of Gender Policy in Accordance with the State Requirements” that took place in the Tajik northern city of Qairoqqum on June 19-20.

According to the European Union (EU) Delegation to Tajikistan, the training was organized by Border Management Program in Central Asia (BOMCA), funded by the European Union jointly with UNDP/BOMCA Kyrgyzstan in the frame of its Peace Development Project.

Two trainers from Kyrgyzstan reportedly provided the basic and advance level training on gender issue in the context of safety, mainly addressing the cross bordering gender issues that occur between cross bordering provinces.  Another topic of the training was, how the gender issue can be identified in that provinces and how it can be addressed and resolved, and as a result the proper solution of the gender issues dramatically raise the economy of the province.

The overall objectives of BOMCA are to help increase security in the Central Asian region, to contribute toward the facilitation of legitimate trade and transit, and to reduce the illicit movement of goods and people.

The BOMCA Program is funded by the European Union and implemented by UNDP, with ICMPD as an implementing partner for training component.
