DUSHANBE, April 4, 2016, Asia-Plus -- Experts from German organization, Deutsche AIDS Hilfe, have provided a two-day training in social work in dealing with problem drug users for the national working group consisting of 15 local NGO representatives from all regions of Tajikistan, Tajik National University and Narcological Center.

According to the Delegation of the European Union to Tajikistan, the training was supported within the sixth phase of the Central Asia Drug Action Program (CADAP 6), funded by the European Union and implemented by a Consortium from the Netherlands, Czech Republic, Poland and Germany.

Central Asia Drug Action Program (CADAP Phase 6) represents continuity of the EU policy and long term engagement with Central Asian partners to help further strengthen their national policies in drug demand reduction.

During the training, NGO representatives identified practical training approaches and techniques and intensively discussed issues in social work and psycho-social rehabilitation of opioid drug users.  Local experts will be actively involved in the development of guideline related to supporting services to People Who Inject Drugs.

Local experts will participate in set of seminars in 2016- 2017 and upon their completion they will receive certificates of the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences.  Local experts will replicate trainings to local specialists to further improve standards of social work for opioid drug users in accordance with the EU best practices.
