DUSHANBE , May 18, Asia-Plus - On Thursday May 18, Tajikistan held events to mark an International Day of Museums.

A ceremonial meeting on this occasion was held at the National Kamoliddin Behzod Museum in Dushanbe .  On the sidelines of the meeting, a conference formally titled “Kulob in Mirror of History” was held at the Tajik National Museum .  Known Tajik orientalists, historians, representatives from city and district museums, Iran ’s cultural centers active in Tajikistan , Cultural Center Bactria ” as well as students and teachers from Russian-Tajik Slavic University took part in the conference’s work.

According to information from the Ministry of Culture, at present 36 museums having rare exhibits are functioning in Tajikistan .

Among the rare exhibits kept in the National Kamoliddin Behzod Museum in Dushanbe are “Iskandar Mehrob” (altar) dated from the Samanid period, golden belt dated from 13 th century, ancient coins, collection of Tajik national clothing dated from the end of 19 th and beginning of 20 th centuries, etc.

At the same time, the museum has many problems facing it.  The museum’s employees note that for lack of enough room for putting on display of exhibits many rare exhibits are kept in the museums basements.  The museum also has no additional place for organizing temporary exhibitions, according to them.
