, March 6, Asia-Plus - The marketplace “Rohi Abreshim” ( Silk Road ) in microrayon 82 of Dushanbe is to be pulled down.

Dushanbe Mayor Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev signed a resolution on this subject on Monday [March 6].

Shavkat Saidov, a spokesman for the Dushanbe mayor, has told Asia-Plus that in October 2005 already, Tajikistan ’s High Economic Court According passed a verdict noting that the closed joint-stock company  (CJSC) “Taraqqiyot” uses state-owned property (land) illegally.  Besides, shops placed on the territory of the marketplace do not meet requirements of the Dushanbe ’s general plan, according to him.

“The shops have been built without special permission with violation of the present legislation,” said Shavkat Saidov, “Besides, they do not meet requirements of the fire-prevention measures.”

By mayor’s order the CJSC “Taraqqiyot” should pull down all shops on the territory of the marketplace within the next two months.

“If the company does not implement this resolution, the mayor’s office will file suit against it,” said the mayoral spokesman, “All enterprises working on the territory of this marketplace may choose a place for them at one of markets in the city.”

According to Shavkat Saidov, two four-storied residential buildings are supposed to be built on the place of the  “Rohi Abreshim” marketplace.  In April, a contest on the best design will be announced among architects, the Asia-Plus interlocutor concluded.
