KULOB, October 27, 2008, Asia-Plus -- With financial support of the UNDP CO Tajikistan, the National Association of Political Scientists of Tajikistan has launched the third phase of the project for training of members of local legislatures (Majlis) in the Khatlon province.
Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, Jumakhon Olimi, head of the Kulob NGO Parallax also one of trainers with the Association, said that the third phase of the project would target not only members of the district legislatures but also members of the Khatlon regional legislature and the Kulob city legislature.
According to him, the training participants are considering the following subjects: social partnership; functions of local authorities under conditions of self-governance; mechanisms of developing an area socioeconomic development strategy; implementation of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by local authorities; reduction of poverty and so forth.
Olimi noted that members of legislatures of Khatlon’s Shuroobod, Rumi, Khovaling, Vakhsh and Baljuvon districts would participate in the training.
