Kazakhstan will extract 15,400 tons of uranium per year by 2010. Marat Tazhin Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan informed about this plans in Washington in Carnegie Fund, reported Kazakhstan Today with the reference on the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan.
"Kazakh government that aimed on raising energy efficiency and ecological compatibility developed program concerning energy saving and ecology protecting," Tazhin said.
One of the directions of alternative energy sources development can be atomic engineering. At the same time it is the way to struggle with global warming and climate change.
"Today Kazakhstan have the second position in the world on discovered stocks of uranium, but in 2010 we plan to have the first place in uranium mining because of the new planned volume production of 15,400 tons per year," announced Tazhin.
"Besides, by 2015 Kazakhstan will cover 15 % of manufacturing of heat-generating elements market. The national nuclear company of Kazakhstan Kazatomprom will be co-owner of the largest American company Westinghouse and will participate in construction of atomic power stations," Minister reported.
