Uzbek electronic mass media association developed a project on increasing level of journalists in key topics of Small grants program of Global ecological fund (GEF). Project was approved and starts its realization with search of specialists, which will develop educational materials for trainings on three directions of GEF activity - biodiversity, land degradation, and climate change.
Holding a series of trainings for journalists to increase their understanding of environmental problems beyond frames of common views is planned in frames of given project. Planned education has to be developed for society, where "journalists would be on such a place as any member of society," developers of the project consider.
Small grants program was officially launched in Uzbekistan in May 2008. Purpose of the program is providing assistance to non-governmental organizations and local communities to improve state of environment on sites.
Electronic mass media are the most popular ones among population in modern informational infrastructure of Uzbekistan. Production on ecology presented on TV is not effective and wide-ranging enough. That is why association, uniting 75 non-governmental TV and radio stations in united media area of Uzbekistan, chose environmental protection as one of directions of its social activity.
