As part of the joint project of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Ministry of Labor and Social Security of the Population, "ACCESS" is announcing a contest on "The best publication, movie, radio program, photo essays or TV show on the issue of disabilities in Uzbekistan" (that were published in print, Internet, or broadcast in the period from 1 April 2009 to 1 October 2009).
Journalists, photographers, creative groups, editorial staff, representatives of social, government and other organizations and individual authors are eligible and can take part in the contest.
The partners of the contest are the Uzbek Agency of Publication and Information, The Center of Journalist Retraining and the National Association of Electronic Tools of Mass Media in Uzbekistan.
The goal of the contest is to support and contribute to development of journalism in the field of efficient and correct reflection of disability issues, to increase awareness and to overcome the stereotypes concerning people with disabilities in mass media.
Results of the contest and the award ceremony will take place in early December 2009. The three winners of the contest will get the 1st, 2nd or 3rd place based on the journalistic material or a series of journalistic materials on the theme of disabilities. The amount of TV and Radio shows, photos, newspaper articles and Internet publications being sent to the contest is not limited. The languages of materials submitted for the contest are Uzbek, Karakalpak and Russian.
