At a regular meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on September 9, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov issued the decree "On pardoning persons sentenced to imprisonment in honor of the holy night of Gadyr Gijesi (Night of Omnipotence)", which this year falls on September 16-17. The text of the decree was published in all central mass media.
In accordance with the decree, 1284 convicts were exempt from further serving the principal punishment, as well as an additional penalty of obligatory living in a particular place, the Turkmenistan.ru correspondent reports from Ashgabat quoting the press service of the head of state.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said that "the amnesty is a tribute to the humane traditions of the ancestors," noting that 21 foreign nationals will return to their homes along with other pardoned convicts in the Night of Omnipotence.
The Turkmen leader also instructed relevant officials to take all measures to ensure that all pardoned meet this holy night in their homes.
