Media reports says one person was killed and 162 others injured by a powerful explosion that occurred at a warehouse in Uzbekistan’s capital, Tashkent early Thursday morning.
Citing Uzbekistan’s Emergencies Ministry, RIA Novosti reports that the blast occurred on September 28, at 2:43 am local time.
The Health Ministry of Uzbekistan said in a statement that a teenage boy died after a window frame fell on him. 24 people were reportedly hospitalized, but faced no threat to their lives, while 138 were treated for injuries and sent home.
Tashkent International Airport administration said flights were operating as normal.
A social media post from Uzbek outlet Daryo said 16 fire and rescue crews were sent to fight the fire at one of the warehouses in the city's Sergeli district near the airport.
