Marat Kushtybayev, a former chief of the police department of Taldykurgan City in the southeast of Kazakhstan, has been jailed for raping, KAzTAG news agency reported on April 30, citing the local court’s press service.
The Taldykorgan city court has reportedly sentenced Marat Kushtybayev to 11 years in prison. The sentenced followed his conviction on charges of raping the detained 27-year-old woman in his office.
The court reportedly stripped Kushtybayev of all previous state honors and awards, including revoking his rank of Colonel. Marat Kushtybayev is also barred from holding public service positions for the next ten years.

The incident took place on November 12, 2023. The 27-year-old woman and her boyfriend were reportedly detained and taken to the police department for disturbing the peace. The woman was reportedly taken to Kushytibayev’s office for questioning, and Kushtybayev raped her.
After this incident, immediate superiors of Kushtybayev -- the chief of the police directorate of Zhetysou region and his deputies – were dismissed.
Kushtybayev had reportedly served as the chief of the Taldukurgan police department since 2022.
