DUSHANBE , June 6, Asia-Plus - A conference on a National Development Strategy for Tajikistan to 2015 was held in Dushanbe today.

According to information from the Ministry of Economy and Trade, the conference participants included senior representatives from authorities of all four districts of Dushanbe and relevant ministries and organizations.

The conference considered issues related to reduction of poverty in Tajikistan .  During this month the same conferences will be held in all regions of the country, according to the source.

We will recall that Tajik government presented the National Development Strategy for Tajikistan designed for 2006-2015 at the end of the last year.  This document provides an overview of the Republic of Tajikistan in relation to its long-term development and the directions of action required to realize projected economic reforms.  The goal of these reforms is to guarantee a stable high rate of economic growth and thereby reduce poverty levels, with the aim of achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

The basic projected reforms and actions are necessary for the formation of a democratic, strong, and prosperous state in Tajikistan , where all citizens will benefit equally from political, social, and economic development.

To accomplish these goals requires a complex approach to renewal and development of political institutions, social welfare, and economic potential. Government administration will be reformed to guarantee its effectiveness on the basis of the rule of democratic principles and laws. State politics will be oriented towards achieving an improvement in the standard of living, a reduction in poverty, a guarantee of social protection for disadvantaged segments of the population, and the healthy development and education of the coming generation.
