DUSHANBE, September 13, Asia-Plus - A session of the Tajik-Chinese commission for economic and trade cooperation will be held in Dushanbe on September 15.
A source in the Ministry of Economy and Trade told Asia-Plus that the session is aiming to consider state and prospects of further expansion of economic cooperation between Tajikistan and China. The session is expected to result in signing of a number of cooperation documents.
Working groups of experts from the two countries held a meeting in Dushanbe today morning to prepare a package of documents to be discussed at the session.
In the meantime, according to information from the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT), Chen Yuan, Chairman of China’s Development Bank CDB, will arrive in Dushanbe to attend the Tajik-Chinese Economic Commission’s session. A source in the Tajik central bank says the NBT and the CDB will sign an agreement, under which the Chinese side will provide a loan of US$10 million for enhancing agrarian sector in Tajikistan.
According to figures provided by the State Committee for Statistics, a two-way trade between Tajikistan and China in January-July 2006 has valued at US$74.758 million, which is 44 percent more compared to the same period of last year. This consisted of Tajikistan’s exports to China estimated at US$5,530,600 and Tajikistan’s imports from China worth US$69,237,400.
