KULOB, October 11, Asia-Plus -- The Kulob Civil Society Support Center Shahrvand is making preparations for opening the first in Kulob Information Resource Center for Labor Migrants.

The Shahrvand director Dodarbek Saydaliyev said that the OSCE Center in Dushanbe had allotted US$10,000 for providing the center with office equipment and furniture.

Many residents of Kulob seasonally migrate mostly to Russia in order to find better economic conditions and to support their families.  Because of poor knowledge of the travel and the employment realities abroad as well as legal requirements, many of them find themselves in irregular situations.

Saydaliyev said that the creation of the center will help fill in this gap by enhancing the awareness level of potential labor migrants.  The center will make available information related to labor migration, consultations on all problems that can face labor migrants, according to him.  “In case of necessity, blitz-training will be conducted for separate groups of migrants,” the Shahrvand head said.

He added that all computers at the center will be connected with Internet that will help labor migrants find employers in advance.

“We have already established contacts with some regions in the Russian Federation ,” said Saydaliyev, “Shahrvand has already implemented on project to raise the awareness level of migrants, and we have a good library containing books and materials practically on all problems.”
