DUSHANBE, December 10, Asia-Plus - OSCE plays an important role in providing security and stability in Central Asia, a letter by Tajik Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zaripov to the new OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos said.
Zaripov, in particular, noted in his letter that “an active involvement of OSCE in resolving regional problems has demonstrated once again the necessity of its transformation in favor of resolving problems in military-political, economic and humanitarian measurements.”
The minister stressed an important role of Tajikistan “as an active participant of collective antiterrorist efforts” in providing international and regional security. According to him, under the new government strategic program, priorities will be given to further socioeconomic development and improvement of living level of the population.
Press release issued by OSCE says the new OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos, will outline his country''s priorities for the Organization in 2007 on Thursday in Vienna. Minister Moratinos will speak at a session of the Permanent Council, the Organization''s main regular decision-making body. Expected highlights include the fight against terrorism, participation and diversity in open societies, protecting the environment and strengthening the Organization''s role as a forum for dialogue and cooperation.
