DUSHANBE, January 19, Asia-Plus - Tajikistan plans to develop affordable housing and construction infrastructure, Abduvali Komilov, head of the Agency for Construction and Architecture remarked at a news conference in Dushanbe on January 19.

According to him, the price of one square meter of space in elite residential buildings in the center of Dushanbe reaches $1,000, while the majority of the population cannot afford to buy such apartments.  “Therefore it has been decided to develop affordable housing in Dushanbe and other regions of the country with the price of one square meter of space being not more than $350,” Komilov said, noting that it has been decided to suspend construction of residential buildings in the center of Dushanbe in connection with projecting a new general of the capital city.

Therefore the affordable housing in Dushanbe will be developed within Circles 2 and 3.  “The Dushanbe, mayor’s office, in particular, decided to construct two four-story residential buildings in microrayon 190,” said the agency director, “Besides, there are many half-finished residential buildings in the Zarafshon area of Dushanbe and these buildings will be finished as part of the program for development of affordable housing.”

On projecting the new general plan of Dushanbe, noted that a tender had been announced for correcting the city’s general plan.  “Dushanbe Institute GiproStroy has expressed wish to participate in correcting the plan,” said Komilov, “Besides, specialists from other CIS states, who projected the present general plan, have been invited to participate in this project.”

Asked about the destiny of individual residential buildings located in Circle 1, the agency director said that if commission finds the building fit to meet the general plan requirements, it will not be pulled down.
