DUSHANBE, March 20, Asia-Plus - A large amount of heroin was intercepted in Dushanbe yesterday, according to the Ministry of Interior (MoI).
The source at a MoI said that a 20-year-old Afghan national Fayzahmad valadi (son) of Mahmadnabi was detained in Dushanbe on March 19 on suspicion of having been involved in drug trafficking. When searching his car Nexia, police found some 18 kilograms of heroin.
Criminal proceedings have been instituted and an investigation is under way.
According to the MoI source, their officers have seized more than 1 ton of drugs over the past 2? months. In 2006, Tajik police intercepted 2.442 tons of drugs.
