DUSHANBE, April 5, Asia-Plus - A roundtable meeting to discuss issues related to journalistic education in Tajikistan opened at the Kayon Hotel in Dushanbe today morning. 

The meeting, staged by the Tajik Branch of Open Society Institute/Assistance Foundation (OSI/AF) and the Dushanbe Office of the British Institute for Ware and Peace Reporting (IWPR), has brought together deans and lecturers from faculties of journalism at Tajik higher educational institutions, representatives from the ministry of education, media NGOs, as well as representatives from diplomatic missions and international organizations active in Tajikistan. 

Rukhshona Olimova, program coordinator, Tajik Branch of OSI/AF, said that the meeting aims to organize a constructive dialogue of donor organizations and media NGOs with teaching staff at higher educational institutions training journalists.  

Participants at the meeting are discussing the current activities of faculties of journalism as well as state and prospects of their cooperation with donor organizations, Olimova said.  

A number of projects that were already implemented by donors in cooperation with the faculties of journalism are also supposed to be presented at the meeting.  

The meeting is expected to project and adopt recommendations on ways how to improve professional skills and knowledge of journalists, the program coordinator said.
