Eurasian conference opens in Dushanbe to discuss free and open source software
DUSHANBE, July 6, Asia-Plus — A two-day Eurasian conference formally titled “Free and Open Source Software (FOSS)” opened in Dushanbe today.
Munfiza Bobojonova, Secretary General of Tajikistan’s National Commission for UNESCO Affairs, told Asia-Plus that the conference participants include more than 50 programmers working with FOSS, representatives from international organizations and IT specialists from Central Asia, Afghanistan and India.
According to her, the conference is aiming to discuss issues related to projecting national development strategies in Central Asia. “Various UNESCO programming products and practice of application of them and international standards are being presented at the conference,“ said Bobojonova. “Besides, the conference is considering perspectives of creation of national FOSS-based trademarks in Central Asia’s states.”
The conference is dedicated to make contribution to raising FOSS awareness for development and initializing working out of national strategies for application of FOSS in Central Asia, the secretary general said.
