DUSHANBE, July 19, Asia-Plus — Medical facilities in the Sughd and Khatlon provinces are being rehabilitated under grant support of the World Bank (WB). 

A number of medical facilities are being rehabilitating in Asht and Spitamen districts in Sughd and Norak, Qubodiyon and Shuroobod districts in Khatlon as part of the of the WB-sponsored Community and Basic Health Project.

Nargis Qosimova, the Project Implementation Unit (PIU) coordinator for public relations, told Asia-Plus that 18 buildings of health houses and rural medical centers will be repaired and new facilities will be built there.  According to her, it is one strategic decisions of the Project being made in accordance with a concept of health reform in Tajikistan.  New buildings will meet all requirements of modern medical facilities, and all necessary conditions will be created for work of medical workers.   The renovated rural health houses and medical centers will be able to provide high-quality health services to the population in those districts, Qosimova said.  

   The Community and Basic Health Project for Tajikistan  aims to increase access to, utilization of, and patient satisfaction with health services in project-supported areas, and to build capacity and efficiency at national, regional and district levels in administering a basic package of health benefits and introducing financing reforms in primary health care. The project has several components: financing training, local and international technical assistance, workshops, study tours and minor civil works to help strengthen coherence and coordination in policymaking, policy analysis and the management of donor support by the MOH; financing a training, local and international technical assistance, workshops and study tours to help support the implementation of per capita financing for primary health care and implementation of the Basic Program of Medical Care Services; financing local technical assistance, training, medical equipment and civil works to help renew the primary health care (PHC) infrastructure in a number of districts and support complementary measures to improve service delivery and outreach; and financing equipment, operating costs and local technical assistance for PIU.
