DUSHANBE, August 9, Asia-Plus Eight small power plants are expected to have been built in Tajikistan by spring of 2009, Asia-Plus has learned from Abdullojon Qurbonov, the head of electrical power directorate of the Ministry of energy and Industries (MoEI). 

According to him, Tajik-Iranian joint venture Rohi Korvon – Gavharroud has been granted a contract to built these small power plants.  “Rohi Korvon – Gavharroud has won a tender for construction of eight small plants that was announced on March 31 this year,” Qurbonov said, noting that four Tajik and foreign companies participated in the tender. 

“The tender commission has decided to grant the contract to the Tajik-Iranian joint venture,” said the MoEI official, “The Islamic Development Bank (IDB), which funds this hydroelectricity project, has also seconded candidacy of Rohi Korvon –Gavharroud for implementing the project.”  A total project cost is $10 million.   

The project that was launched on July 13 is supposed to be finished in 18 months.  Eight small power plants with a total capacity 8,000 kW will be built in Ayni, Turrsunzoda, Nourobod, Baljuvon and Shahrinav districts
