DUSHANBE, August 25, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan has yielded 7,645 tons of raw cotton by Friday, August 24, which is 1.4 percent of the national target that has been determined at 550,000 tons of cotton, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection (MoAEP) said.
On August 23, cotton farmers produced 1,815 tons of cotton, which is 0.3 percent of the target.
The source at a MoAEP said that so far, the cotton-harvesting campaign has been launched only in the southern Khatlon province, while cotton farmers of the Sughd province and districts subordinate will start production of cotton in early September.
Cotton farmers in the Khatlon province have pledged to produce 330,500 tons of cotton this.
The target of the northern Sughd province for this year is 171,300 tons.
The districts subordinate to the center (RRPs) have pledged to yield 48,200 tons of cotton this year.
