DUSHANBE, September 6, Asia-Plus -- From August 24 through 29, 2007 with the assistance of Informational Program of Open Society Institute – Assistance Foundation (OSI-AF), a summer camp on localization “The revision and bundling of Free Open Source Software to Tajik language” was conducted in Hoja-Obigarm, press release issued by the Tajik Branch of OSI-AF said.

To fulfill the objectives and purpose of the project organizers invited famous professionals in philology field such as Tolib Rozi, Bahriddin Alavi, Abduvosit Yuldoshev, Nasrullo Hojayorov and Zarrina Murodova, as well as specialists in ICT (Informational Communication Technologies) field from Dushanbe, Sughd and Khatlon provinces.  Specialist in localization from Georgia Noshvaren Chkhaidze was invited as expert for experience exchange. 

One of the main objectives of this project was to expand facilities of implementing Tajik language to computers with different operating systems. Another important objective was to create a glossary on computer terms in Tajik language.  Complexity of creating this glossary is the correct translation of technical terms, which was solved with united efforts of philologists and technical specialists.

During five days the participants of summer camp carried out big amount of work in integrating the national language in ICT sphere. 

The following programs were localized to Tajik language : GIMP – program for working with images; Kopete – multiprotocol messenger;  Kaffeine and Audacity – program for reviewing and editing multimedia; K3B – program for creating and burning CD/DVD; Ark – program  to work with archiving files; and Scribus – program for creating books, magazines, brochures and etc.

Glossary  of computer terms was created, with more than 1000 terms, which are accessible to users, translators and developers on web site: www.tajiklocalization.org (created on summer camp for publication of work on localization). The site will feature resources required for localization work such as drivers for keyboard layout, glossary of terms as well as resources required to work on Tajik language on different platforms.

With the assistance of expert from Georgia, the developer from Tajikistan created keyboard layout driver in Tajik language for operating system Windows and Linux, according the standard statement of RT. Two alternative choice set for keyboard layout in Tajik language we developed, which are prevalent around Tajik users of computer technologies. A program of virtual keyboard on Java Script and Adobe Flash was also crated, which allows users to input text on Tajik sites in Tajik language without additional drivers.
