DUSHANBE, September 8, Asia-Plus -- Sixteen years have passed since Tajikistan gained independence, but today’s youth is unfortunately not well aware of those who were the main initiators of that process, a statement by the board of the Islamic Revival Party (IRPT) published in the party’s official newspaper Najot on occasion of the 16th anniversary of Tajikistan’s Independence said.

The statement, in particular, said, “The majority of those, who today call themselves fighters for independence, in the recent past were against the independence of the country and called for restoration of the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union, claiming that if Tajikistan gains independence, people will die of starvation and problems…”

The party regrets that every year on the eve of the Independence Day, Tajik national TV prepares and demonstrates documentaries that deliberately misrepresent the facts and realities of those days, the statement said.  “However, it is impossible to conceal the truth and time will come, when people, especially youth, will know all this,” the IRPT board said in its statement.

At the same time, the party’s board supported those important measures taken by the government to tackle problems facing the country.

Congratulating the nation on the Independence Day, the IRPT calls on the people to not become depressed from numerous problems, because “dark night will give way to bright day,” the statement said.
