KULOB, November 5, Asia-Plus -- The organization of the People’s Democratic Party (PDPT) for the city of Kulob has nominated Kulob mayor Homid Abdulloyev to stand for by-elections to the Khatlon regional legislature (Majlis) in Kulob regional constituency # 5.
Davlatsho Sharofuddinov, the head of the Kulob regional electoral commission, said the by-election is scheduled for December 2. The by-election will be held in connection with sudden death of the first deputy Khatlon governor, Safarali Rustamov, who represented Kulob in the Khatlon regional legislature.
Other political parties functioning in Kulob have refused to field their candidates in the by-election. “However, representatives from the Communist Party and the Party of Economic Reforms have been included on lists of members of electoral commissions both in the constituency and polling stations,” the electoral commission head said, noting that the Kulob constituency numbers some 13,000 voters.
