DUSHANBE, November 27, Asia-Plus -- Officer from the directorate for providing security of diplomats at the State Committee for National Security (GKNB), Sergeant Major Khudoinazar Halimov has got a long jail term for killing and fraud.
A Military Board of Tajikistan’s Supreme Court on November 26 ruled that Sergeant Major Halimov be given a jail term of 24 years and that he should serve it in a high-security penal colony. The sentence followed his conviction on charges of killing and fraud.
Abduqodir Nourov, the head of the investigation directorate of Tajik Main Military Prosecutor’s Office, said in an interview with Asia-Plus that from October 2006 to May 2007, Halimov swindled totaling $13,000 out of resident of the Vahdat district and his former classmate Dilshod Nabiyev, promising him a three-room apartment in an elite residential complex Poitakht-80 in the center of Dushanbe.
When Nabiyev began demanding his money back, Halimov decided to kill Nabiyev’s brother Jamshed Rabiyev and tell Nabiyev that he allegedly gave the money to his brother Jamshed, Nourov said.
In July 2007, Halimov and his buddy Zubaidullo Huseinov decoyed Jamshed Rabiyev to one of waste plots of land in the Vahdat district, where Halimov stabbed him to death.
“This crime was solved practically several days after and Halimov was detained,” Nourov said.
The court also sentenced Zubaidullo Huseinov as assisting offender to 17 years in jail.
