DUSHANBE, February 28, Asia-Plus  -- Assets of Tajikistan’s banking system, including banks, loan and other financial organizations, doubled in the year to January 1, 2008, exceeding 5.6 billion somonis, which is 44.3 percent of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP), according to the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT).  

A total capital of the country’s banking system increased 1.7 times in the year to January 1 2008, reaching 660 million somonis.   

As of January 1, 2008, a total investment balance has amounted to nearly 4 billion somonis, which is of 29.5 percent of GDP.
