KULOB, March 27, 2012, Asia-Plus -- Some farming units in the Kulob district have launched a cotton-sowing campaign.
The Rohbar Qosimov Farm launched the cotton-sowing campaign on March 27.
Kulob Deputy Mayor, Fayzali Qurbonov, says 4,000 hectares of lands in the Kulob district have been allocated to cotton cultivation this year, which is 223 hectares more than in 2011.
“Meanwhile, the international cotton prices are continuing to show a downward trend that will probably lead to reduction in areas under cotton,” Qurbonov noted, adding that dozens of cotton producing farms in the district have still failed to sell hundreds tons of cotton fiber of the 2011 harvest “because of the sharp fall in the international cotton prices.”
